Bassett-Smith Architecture Wins Regional Award at ADNZ 2025

Bassett-Smith Architecture has received the Regional Award in the Colour in Design category of the 2025 ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards. This recognition celebrates how colour can shape mood, enhance connection with place, and elevate architectural experience.

Colour, Light, and Landscape

The winning project, Terrace, pairs a restrained palette of soft plaster and warm timber with lush coastal planting. Large, uninterrupted openings frame the gardens, drawing the landscape and natural light deep into the home. Subtle tonal shifts throughout the interior create a calm continuity, allowing light, texture, and shadow to animate the spaces as the day changes.

Architecture in Harmony with Nature

Guided by a commitment to designing in balance with the natural environment, each Bassett-Smith project seeks to blur the boundary between inside and out. Layered gardens, filtered light, and natural materials create a sensory connection to the surrounding landscape, while considered detailing ensures durability and comfort over time.

A Shared Achievement

We’re honoured by this recognition and grateful to our clients, whose trust and vision made Terrace possible, and to the builders and trades whose craft and care gave it form. The award is a reflection of genuine collaboration — of people working together to create something timeless, grounded, and deeply connected to its place.
